Long story short, execution triumphs over ideas.
But execution by itself is not nearly enough to ensure an awesome end-product.
Some of you reading this must be shaking your heads in disbelief…you think ideas are sexy and it’s the secret recipe to winning people over. Or if you’re undecided, you’re probably playing safe and assigning equal time and effort for both. For starters, don’t do that. You’re wasting precious time.
Here’s 3 tips on how to balance your time on execution and ideation:
- Don’t fall in love with your idea: Romanticising your idea and overlooking the reality and complexities of how it’s going to be brought to life will set you up for disappointment. Ideas will continuously be moulded and re-moulded before it’s fruition. You can’t escape compromise when planning for its execution. “#Finaldelivery.V4Final(5)”
- Plan with your execution in mind: If you plan your idea with the execution in mind whilst leaving your idea flexible to change, then it will be easier to rewrite your creations because the foundation for your idea to grow has been set up. You know where and how your ideas are going to reach their end goal!
- Accept that being ‘Realistic’ is not always ‘Boring’: Ideas are constantly being recycled. There’s rarely any idea that’s fresh off the hook. But unique execution can turn the most mundane of ideas into something that feels completely new. So don’t just brainstorm ideas, brainstorm on execution too!
Time management is never easy when it comes to projects that demand our creative juices.
So learn to take a step back and revisit your processes whenever you feel like you’re stuck in a rut!
